SAGE Employee Assistance Programs

At SAGE Inc., we recognize that personal and work-related issues such as workplace stress, family/personal relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression have a real impact on your employees’ work performance and their ability to be the best they can be at work.   As a result, this has a significant impact on the growth and success of your company and your bottom line.

SAGE Inc. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) gives employers the opportunity to invest in the health and well-being of their employees by offering them access to high quality confidential counselling services. When businesses take care of their employees by providing the resources they need to take care of themselves, their family, their personal/work related issues and their health, productivity and efficiency usually follow. Organizations with an effective EAP can also experience an increase in employee engagement, less absenteeism, reduced overall health care claims costs and disability claims costs, better job climate and organizational morale, less inter-group conflicts and team problems, as well as reduced turnover rates.

Workplace Consultation Services

SAGE offers consultations to managers, supervisors and union leaders, regarding difficult employee/members, team, or workplace issues. Our experienced Master’s level workplace consultants are available to provide advice and guidance on policy development, issues pertaining to employee and workplace health and wellness, including strategies for assisting managers with sensitive employee issues, performance management concerns, workplace conflict, or employees at risk due to mental health concerns or violence in the workplace.

 Workplace Conflict Resolution Services

SAGE offers conflict resolution services that are designed to address difficult and complex workplace conflicts both quickly and effectively. Conflict resolution services offer organizations the opportunity to resolve conflicts among colleagues, managers, employees and/or work groups in a confidential, respectful and productive manner. SAGE also ensures that participants to the process are encouraged to learn the necessary skills to prevent future conflicts and resolve them without having to resort to external third party assistance.

Substance Abuse Professional Services

Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) services are provided through highly specialized and qualified substance abuse professionals. Whether a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)-regulated or non-DOT regulated organization, SAPs follow established national and international protocols. They administer standardized assessment tools to ensure that employees with substance abuse disorders are identified quickly and receive referrals for appropriate treatment, and that all safety, legislative and policy requirements are met. SAGE has access to contracted SAPs to ensure a multi-phase approach to intervention for alcohol or substance abuse that includes assessment, monitoring and follow-up, work and community re-integration and relapse prevention.

Psychological First Aid and Critical Incident Response Services

Traumatic events that involve workplace accidents, life-threating situations, acts of violence, or mass disaster, challenge organizational and community leaders to be calm and compassionate in the face of a painful range of emotions and physical responses.

There is consensus among international disaster experts and researchers that aid offered within 48 to 72 hours of a traumatic event can help alleviate painful emotions and reduce further harm that can result from initial reactions to tragedies and disasters.

To recover from severe stress, people need to be given the opportunity to come together to learn about what they have gone through, identify and understand their inherent resiliency and find a solid emotional footing to begin the healing process.

SAGE has access to a team of clinicians who are trained to deliver specialized information and debriefing sessions to support the individuals who have been experienced, witnessed or been impacted by tragic events.

Workshops and Educational Sessions

SAGE strongly believe that educational sessions can be a valuable medium for teaching and learning values and skills that can promote growth, positive change, healing and wellbeing of individuals. SAGE workshops and educational services are designed to provide participants with the knowledge, insight and skills they require to effectively cope with contemporary living or identified mental, physical or social situations. Programs aim to foster the desired attitudes, problem solving and coping skills consistent with the desired outcomes of creating healthier mental and physical lifestyle choices both at home and in the workplace.

Using its integrated network of specialized service partners, SAGE has the unique ability to offer seamless access to highly qualified educators, therapists, psychologists, mediators and holistic health experts to facilitate all workshops. SAGE’s educators are supported to ensure that their presentations are clear, well explained, simplified, and designed to provide new learnings and practical solutions/skills to real life problems

Student Counselling Services

SAGE recognizes that retention rates and school-based performance may be adversely impacted by personal issues that are being experienced by students. SAGE Student Counselling Program (SCP) gives post-secondary schools and colleges the opportunity to invest in the mental well-being of their students. Students are provided with access to high quality confidential services to take care of their personal issues that may create barriers to their ability to learn and perform. Schools with an effective SCP can also experience an increase in student engagement, less absenteeism, a better learning climate and overall morale that will spread not only among the students, but to the instructors as well. SAGE can help students gain momentum to navigate through life’s personal and school-related challenges so they can be at their very best.

A Wise Investment

Along with the obvious benefit to your employees, research shows that for each dollar invested in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the average return on investment is $5 – $16. EAP’s can reduce sick leave usage by 33%, work-related accidents by 65%, workers’ compensation claims by 30%, lost time by 40% and grievances by 50%.

Some of your employees are faced with difficulties which impact their workplace performance and as a result, increase your costs. Research shows that 20% to 30% of working people suffer from issues such as substance abuse, relationship conflicts, financial difficulties, addiction and workplace bullying. Furthermore, 20 % of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime and Statistics Canada reports that one in 10 Canadians report symptoms consistent to substance dependency.
